辛格24日首次出庭，在兰乔库卡蒙加（Rancho Cucamonga）法院，面对多项重罪指控时表示不认罪。
圣伯纳汀诺县检察官办公室指出，辛格被控三项“吸毒状态下重大过失杀人罪”（gross vehicular manslaughter
while intoxicated）及一项“吸毒驾驶致伤罪”（driving under the influence of a
drug causing injury）。
他已获指定公设辩护律师，目前被无保释羁押。法庭文件显示，下次开庭日期为11月4日，届时将提供翻译。

根据警方与检方描述，事发当天下午，辛格驾驶一辆Freightliner大型货柜卡车，在西向10号公路高速行驶时未及时刹车，猛撞前方因交通堵塞而停下的车辆，引发连环相撞与起火。
共有八辆车卷入事故，其中包括四辆商用车辆。遇难者包括一名波莫那高中篮球教练及其妻子，以及另一名私家车驾驶人。车祸现场一度火势猛烈，车辆残骸散落一地，警方形容为“庞大且混乱的灾难现场”。
国土安全部（DHS）证实，辛格为2022年经美墨边境非法入境的印度公民，目前已对其发出移民拘留令（immigration
detainer）。移民及海关执法局（ICE）表示，这起悲剧“凸显非法移民驾驶商用车辆对公共安全构成的严重威胁”。
事故也引发外界对加州商业驾驶执照（CDL）审核制度的强烈质疑。美国交通部（DOT）指出，辛格在6月27日获得加州核发的“非居留商业驾驶执照”（non-domiciled
CDL），当时因其身分为寻求庇护者而获准。

但根据9月26日生效的联邦新规，所有庇护申请者应被禁止持有或更新此类执照。交通部批评加州车辆管理局（DMV）“未依照紧急标准”，在辛格21岁生日（10月15日）后错误地解除限制并升级其驾照，间接促成这起悲剧。
联邦运输部长达菲（Sean Duffy）表示：“这起事件正是我们发布紧急禁令以防止类似司机驾驶商用车辆的原因。”
交通部在声明中指出，曾明确警告加州州长加文·纽森（Gavin Newsom），其CDL发照系统存在“严重漏洞”。
对此，纽森办公室回应称，辛格的联邦就业许可系由联邦政府多次批准和续期，州政府依联邦法发照并无不当：“此事件固然悲剧，但部分联邦官员企图借机曲解事实以谋取政治利益。”
目前，警方仍在等待辛格的毒品检测结果，以确定其吸食物质及血液酒精浓度。案件仍在进一步调查中。
